OWNED: The Pfeifer Family
WINEMAKER: Damon A Pfeifer
FAMILY HISTORY: Damon Pfeifer is a fifth-generation winemaker descended from the Wald and Pfeifer families originally from Europe. The art of wine making was passed down from Henry Wald to the grandchildren at an early age in hopes that someday they would carry on a family tradition.
FARM HISTORY: The Pfeifer family originally settled in Kansas in the late 1860s as farmers after the Civil War. They built a small three-room house, a barn and a chicken coop on a 186-acre farm, where the rich soil and the snow banks along the fence lines made the summers plentiful with vines of grapes and berries for carrying on the family tradition of guarded wine-making recipes.
THE WINERY: Business ventures brought the Pfeifer family to Canal Winchester, Ohio where Hidden Lakes Winery was built and opened in May 2009. The Winery is located at 650 Winchester Pike, Canal Winchester Ohio, approximately 12 miles from downtown Columbus off State Route 33 and Gender Road, right next door to The Mid Ohio Doll and Toy Museumwhich is owned and operated by Damon's mother, Henrietta Pfeifer. Our wines are fermented in stainless steel drums located in the back room of the winery, then aged in a climate controlled building located on the Winchester Pike property. The Pfeifer families reside in the homes along the lakeside.
FRUIT SOURCES: Although land is set aside to establish our own vineyards, currently all the freshly pressed grape juice that contains the skins, fruits and juices are hand selected from established quality vineyards in Ohio and California, thereby maintaining quality, consistent wines at an affordable price.
Thank you to all my family, friends, staff, and winery guests for their help, encouragement, and continued support in making this a huge success!
